’s vision to transform vacant lands into thriving\, productive spaces th

About MAʻO Organic Farms\nCommunity members founded the WCRC to grow two
of the communityʻs greatest assets: the rich food producing traditions o
f the region and the youth who were not achieving their academic potential
. WCRC created a social enterprise called MAʻO Organic Farms (MAʻO) and
began developing programming to mentor\, educate and empower youth. For 25
-years\, MAʻO has catalyzed educational and entrepreneurial opportunities
around youth and land assets to redefine their community by its strenghts
and address the root causes of intergenerational cultural\, social\, econ
omic and environmental poverty. Thanks to a generous land grant from the H
arry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation\, MAʻO now has a rare opportunity t
o transition nearly 250 acres in Mākaha into agriculturally productive la
nd for the benefit of the community.\n\nAs part of this effort\, MAʻO pla
ns to adopt a model of community stewardship to support the long-term heal
th\, equity and sustainability of the region. This vision includes develop
ing housing for local people and following agroforestry-based agricultural
practices that cultivate opportunity\, abundance\, and a rooted sense of
community.  This transformative vision of community for Mākaha is a bea
con of immense hope that holds the promise of strengthening food security\
, restoring the ʻāina\, and providing housing for the next generation of
local ʻāina stewards.\n\nPlease help us welcome our new members to the
