Join us for our upcoming June meeting, where we’ll feature a special presentation by HomeAid Hawaiʻi.

HomeAid Hawaiʻi is a nonprofit developer advancing innovative solutions to one of Hawaiʻi’s most urgent challenges: delivering deeply affordable housing for households earning at or below 30% of Area Median Income (AMI). Their work focuses on the critical “missing rung” in Hawaiʻi’s housing ladder—serving ALICE households (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), as well as individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Through a nonprofit development model and strong public‑private partnerships, HomeAid Hawaiʻi brings together government agencies, private sector partners, and community organizations to unlock land opportunities, reduce development costs, and share resources. Their approach demonstrates a practical and replicable pathway to making deeply affordable housing both feasible and scalable across the state.

Much of this work is currently being advanced through the State’s Kauhale Initiative, with increasing interest from counties exploring similar approaches. A key factor in these projects has been access to land—whether through donation or reduced cost—which can significantly improve feasibility. One example that will be highlighted is the Alana Ola Pono Kauhale, where land contribution played a pivotal role in achieving deeply affordable rents.

During this session, you can expect to learn about:

  • HomeAid Hawaiʻi’s nonprofit development model
  • Innovative strategies to address homelessness and housing insecurity
  • Opportunities for industry and community involvement to help expand these efforts

This program will be especially valuable for members interested in land use, development, housing policy, real estate economics, and public‑private partnerships.

We encourage you to join us for what promises to be an insightful and meaningful discussion on solutions that are making a real difference in Hawaiʻi’s housing landscape.

We look forward to seeing you there.
